Worst Of Both Worlds
Rumours abound that Britain is about to agree a Norway-style “associate membership” of the EU. West Midlands MEP, Bill Etheridge described this as the “worst of both worlds” and called on Tory Brexiteers to do their duty and vote it down.
Under the deal, talk of which is being played down by Number 10, the UK would be bound to the single market and only allowed to create new free trade deals which the EU approve.
Free movement of peoples across the border would continue and the UK would be subject to EU laws and the ECJ despite having no MEPs.
Bill Etheridge MEP, the Libertarian Party UK Deputy Chairman said “This is the worst of both worlds and is Remain in all but name.
“I call on the Conservative Brexiteers to vote this capitulation down. It surrenders our sovereignty to the unelected few.
“It leaves our economy at the mercy of foreign nationals who have not exactly proved to be friendly during these negotiations.
“Once in, it will be almost impossible to change the deal as it would requires the EUs permission, something that will not happen.
“Taxation without representation is bad, but this is just stomach-churning subservience.”
