Quick Quick Slow

West Midlands MEP, Bill Etheridge laid into the organisation of the Strasbourg Plenary as MEPs were left hanging around on the final day.

Lack of MEPs wishing to debate on the final day led to the Parliament standing empty.

Bill Etheridge MEP, the Libertarian Party UK Deputy Chairman said “A lot of subjects have been covered this week in heated debates.

“Speakers have been strictly limited by time and microphones are cut off if anyone has the gall to over-run their allocated minutes.

“Those debates have been followed by voting sessions that have resembled a version of the hokey-cokey played at high speed.

“Now, at the end, we are all hanging around waiting for a final voting session while the Parliament stands open, but empty.

“A little advance planning could have seen us finish business last night and save the tax payers a fortune.

“Everything about Strasbourg is about speed – quick debates and then quick voting. The only thing slow is the thought process of the organisers!”
