West Midlands MEP, Bill Etheridge suggested French president Emmanuel Macron should take a history lesson before he opens his mouth again.
Macron is seemingly intent on portraying America as a potential enemy, saying “We have to protect ourselves with respect to China, Russia and even the United States of America.”
Mr Etheridge suggested a trip to the American Cemetary in Colleville-sur-Mer, in Normandy, France, where American troops who died in operation to liberate Europe during World War II were laid to rest.
More than 9,000 are buried there, having got no further than the beaches.
Bill Etheridge MEP, the Libertarian Party UK Deputy Chairman said “As we approach Remembrance Sunday, this is a disgraceful way to speak about our allies.
“Were it not for the UK and the USA, there would be no France, just a German vassalage.
“M. Macron should take a little walk amongst the graves, hundreds of which contain unknown soldiers, who gave their lives for a free Europe.
“It is not the EU who have kept the peace these last 70 years, it is NATO, and M. Macron would do well to remember it.”
