Libertarian left as only Brexit candidate in Stroud
Date: Monday 15th April 2019
Former Conservative MP for Stroud, Neil Carmichael is joining Change UK and plans to stand for the party in the EU elections.
Having lost his seat to Labour, he now wishes to join the EU gravy train as MEP for the South West region.
Glen Gogerly, Libertarian Party PPC for Stroud said, “Neil Carmichael’s decision to leave the Tory party does not come as a surprise to me.
“During the General Election campaign in 2017, he made it very clear that he wanted to remain in the EU and campaigned on this during the election.
“He also campaigned on this during the referendum. Although Stroud voted to remain by just 6,828, the UK as whole voted to leave with a seven-figure majority.
“With Neil now joining the Pro- EU Change UK Party it shows that he shares the same disrespect for democracy and the will of the 17.4m people who voted to leave.
“People will show their disdain at the next General Election for the mainstream parties and those parties who are trying to overturn the Brexit vote.
“I am steadfast in my view that the UK will thrive outside the EU and I will be the only Brexit candidate in the Stroud constituency.”
