Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

It is impossible for us not to mention the passing of Queen Elizabeth II - the only monarch most of us have ever known. Royalists and many republicans shared a healthy respect of this incredible lady.

As a then 21-year-old princess, she made and kept a promise. She kept that promise for more than seven decades.

“I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service”.

At her husband’s funeral, she won plaudits from all but the most ardent republican. Whilst staff and politicians at Number 10 were out partying and breaking their own rules, she followed everything asked of her and showed a respect towards everyday people who were wrongly asked to do the same.

There is a debate to be had regarding the future of the monarchy, but the time for that is not now. For today, our thoughts and condolences are with The Royal Family, they have lost not a Queen, but a mother, a grandmother and a great-grandmother.

We will not see her like again.
