Government can only create the conditions for business to succeed not create wealth , direct strateg
Government seems to accruing to itself the role of deal maker in chief and is heavily into central planning of the economy, yesterday I received the most bizarre email from the Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng urging business to get out there and seize opportunities. I have read some delusional emails in my time this one took the biscuit, the biscuit barrel and most of the cake shop. It appears that this academic son of Eton with precious little business background is peddling the same nonsense as his school mate Boris Johnson.
It does not occur to Mr Kwarteng that his fellow cabinet minister Hancock has effectively destroyed business confidence along with Drakeford and Sturgeon.
The infrastructure is collapsing , business is saddled with debt , negative cashflow and the threat of even more punitive taxation to pay for this debacle.
Airlines, Ferry Companies and Eurostar are all going to the wall, business relies on personal trust and face to face meetings not Zoom
National Governments are responsible for this unholy mass bankruptcy.
Millions of small businesses are going bust with no hope of a bail out from government , yet the big corporates believe they are entitled to one , hence Boris calling in ‘business leaders ‘ ie the large corporates for advice .Mass unemployment faces millions , yet Eurostar is actually asking for a U.K. taxpayer bailout that is just not credible
Eurostar is a company majority owned by the French Government and is now bankrupt , their major shareholder has refused support so despite leaving the EU , the British taxpayer is the next port of call.
The airlines are in the same position but taking bookings and money for flights that are never going to happen ‘because of Covid ‘
National Governments are responsible for this unholy mass bankruptcy. Vouchers issued by airlines are de facto promissory notes , they are issuing their own currency
Thousands of small and large businesses are going bust with no hope of a bail out from government , yet the big corporates believe they are entitled to one , we played that game with the banks in 2008.
Until Governments start getting bad publicity the chaos they have unleashed on the economy , this misery and uncertainty will continue.
Business hates uncertainty
So less of the delusional academic rhetoric Mr Kwarteng , just back off , try to create favourable conditions and cut taxes not increase them.
