A Government Failing To Protect Its Citizens
West Midlands MEP Bill Etheridge has claimed the current policing levels are insufficient to keep people safe.
Recent figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show a jump in the numbers of recorded robberies (up 22%), sexual offences (up 18%), vehicle-related theft (up 7%) and burglaries (2%).
Yet just 8.7% of reported offences resulted in criminal charges being laid – the lowest for three years.
Birmingham, Britain’s second biggest city, has seen gun crime rates rise above those of London.
Bill Etheridge MEP, the Libertarian Party UK Deputy Chairman said “To quote Ronald Reagan, “A government’s duty is to protect its people, not run their lives”.
“From the Brussels elite downwards, the EU is an excellent place to be if you want the government to run your lives.
“However, they are failing in the more basic duty of protecting its people. Police cuts, political correctness and now increased funding against “hate crime” are giving criminals too much freedom.
“They currently have the freedom we should have and it’s time to redress the balance!”
